Program

We use and create innovative pedagogical tools for children and adults to learn in joyful, conceptually rich ways.  Our curriculum and teaching methods aim at enabling our students to acquire or improve communicative skills, linguistic and socio-cultural competence in a memorable, intriguing and meaningful way.  Pedagogical strategies we employ at the Bulgarian School Amsterdam rely on interactive constructive methods that stress the importance of individual pursuit of knowledge.  We appreciate and have incorporated in our program methods like role-playing simulations, sensory play activities, discussions, collaborative learning, working on team projects, reflection, creative writing, learning through lyrics, use of dramatisation, problem-solving, and a lot more…

We always try to involve our students in building the curriculum. Using their creative input, we choose topics that interest them. We are happy to use paper robots in order to learn about grammar, to make cookies when learning the letters, to go on treasure hunts while learning about our history, to write movie scripts in order to get acquainted with some Bulgarian authors, to play theater and so learn folk dances or songs, to plan a restaurant grand opening while working hard on our spelling. We are innovative, resourceful, daring, mindful.

Bulgarian as a foreign language

Bulgarian School Amsterdam offers Bulgarian language courses for adult beginners. The course includes 30 classes.
Classes take place every Sunday of the school year.

  • Group one – beginners: 14:15 – 16:00 (starting 11 Sept, 2016)

Our classes aim at providing language training for effective communication in a variety of social situations, together with acquainting our students with some of the useful basic concept of Bulgarian grammar.

Private lessons are also available after an appointment with our teachers. Lessons can be arranged to fit individual schedules, interests and priorities.

The schoolbooks we use are specially designed for foreign learners of Bulgarian, they follow new European educational standards for second language acquisition. Divided into 14 topics, the book aims at introducing basic concepts of grammar and useful everyday vocabulary. Special drills help to develop communicative skills, simulating real-life situations.
